HDR is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our national recognized Power Practice. This position may be based out of any of our South Atlantic (NC/SC/GA) Area offices. This individual must have the technical skills and desire to help support structural engineering design, repair and retrofit utility projects. In this role, you'll be expected to:

* Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations and assist in the preparation of cost estimates and specifications for structural engineering projects

* Design structural steel and reinforced concrete in accordance with AISC and ACI codes respectively

* Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations

* Participate in design reviews with various clients and governing agencies for code compliance

* Conduct design development sessions at project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines

* Take responsibility for coordinating workload through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule

* Coordinate and assist with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents

* Perform other duties as needed

* Familiarity with concrete dams, structural steel gates, and stability of concrete structures is desirable but not required

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related Engineering discipline required
  • PE license
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience required
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Knowledge of ACI and AISC reinforced concrete and structural steel design criteria respectively
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, flexible, and able to work both independently and with a project team to completion of tasks
  • Candidates must be willing to travel locally to perform field work, which is typically limited to day trips (some overnight stays may be required) and will make up approximately 10% of the Structural Engineer's time
  • A valid driver's license and safe driving record is required
  • This position will be subject to a pre-employment drug test and drug and alcohol testing during the course of your employment based upon HDR's Drug Testing and Drug Free Workplace Policy
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Local candidates are preferred
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior construction observation/support experience
  • Prior experience working on hydropower facilities regulated by the FERC or Corps of Engineers is desirable but not required
