The Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of tenure-track/tenured Assistant/Associate Professor.
Founded in 1906, Georgia Southern University is a Carnegie Doctoral/R2 institution with a focus on public-impact research, serving over 25,500 students on three beautiful campuses in Statesboro, Savannah, and Hinesville, and via a growing online program. Within this setting, the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics is housed in the College of Science and Mathematics. The Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics offers two ACS certified Bachelor of Science degrees in chemistry and biochemistry as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. The department also offers a Master of Science in Applied Physical
Science with concentrations in pharmaceutical science, and materials and coatings science. The department also affiliates with the Ph.D. in Environmental Science which is housed within the College of Science and Mathematics. The Department is rapidly increasing its externally funded research activities and is housed in a recently reconfigured, 47,000 square foot facility containing modern classrooms with dedicated teaching and research laboratories on the Statesboro campus and a similar facility on the Armstrong campus in Savannah. The department comprises 55 faculty with 42 in the professor track, 11 in the lecturer track, and 2 visiting faculty, as well as 7 full time staff.

The faculty focuses on high quality, student-centered undergraduate and graduate education that
prepares students for careers in industry, government positions, and graduate school, as well as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and education. The department is committed to both graduate and undergraduate research, with the majority of undergraduate majors participating, thus furthering their preparedness for post-baccalaureate studies in many fields. Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant/Associate Professor position requires teaching, scholarship and service. The position is an academic 10-month tenure-track/tenured appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

* Ph.D. in a field of science with an emphasis in materials science (such as Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or Biology) or a closely related field, by August 1, 2024.
* Commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate and graduate classroom.
* Development of an externally funded research program in the area of materials science that fully engages both graduate and undergraduate students.
* Research specialization in an area of materials science (for example solid state, semiconductor, electronic, optical, polymeric, bio- or renewable materials).
* Ability to upport our current graduate programs as well as our future growth of graduate programs.
* Ability to work with diverse populations.
* Effective communication skills in spoken and written English.
* Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
* Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research as appropriate to the discipline.
* Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research, external funding and service with publications and presentations in professional venues.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional consideration may be given to candidates who have:
* Post-doctoral experience
* Teaching experience

Conditions of Employment:

* Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
* All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
* Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus.
* Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
