Job Summary

The College of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare students for work in public and private education, community agencies, and higher education. The Department of Elementary and Special Education is committed to preparing reflective educators who work collaboratively and effectively with diverse students in public schools by using current research to inform their practices. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation accredit the College of Education. The individual hired in this position is expected to contribute to the college's goals of continued excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and service.

Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor of Elementary Education will be assigned to the Statesboro Campus and is expected to collaborate with faculty across the College of Education; teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in curriculum and instruction and elementary education; supervise and assist with field experiences; maintain an active research agenda, including regular publications, professional presentations, and external grant proposals in teacher education; use instructional technology; and perform service to the college, university, and local community. The position is an academic (10-month) tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

Earned terminal degree in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field, by August 1, 2024.

Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in grades P-8 schools.

Ability and willingness to teach face-to-face and online classes.

Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.

Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching in grades P-5 in a U.S. public school setting.

Experience supervising pre-service teacher candidates and/or practicum students in field placements.

Experience in developing and teaching face-to-face and online education courses at the university level.

Demonstrated effectiveness in the use of technology.
